School Eligibility Program
Dear Participant and Parents,
Students at the Watertown High School and Middle School who participate in school activities are required to conduct themselves with respect for self and others through their actions, language and dress. Students who chose to participate in school activities or recognized activities represent their community and school at public events and performances. Student participants are expected to demonstrate year around behavior that reflects positively on the individual, the school and the community.
Students wishing to participate in activities sponsored or recognized by the Watertown School District shall not use alcoholic beverages regardless of percentage of content, any drug not prescribed by a physician to the student, or use any habituating and controlled substance, tobacco, or behave in any manner that will bring discredit to the student’s team and school. The school policy – Standards for Participation – JJIC does not apply to consumption of legal drugs prescribed for the student by a physician.
The penalties for training rule violations are listed below.
Athletics:
1. Out-of-season violation

- a. First violation will be cause for the athlete to miss one inter-school competition at the start of the next sport he/she participates in.
- b. Second violation will be cause for the athlete to be eliminated from inter-school competition for the next sport he/she participates in.

2. In-season violation will be cause for the athlete to be eliminated for the remainder of the season of the sport in season.
Fine arts:
1. Out-of-season violation

- a. First violation will cause the participant to miss one contest or two weeks, whichever is less.
- b. Second violation will be cause for the participant to be eliminated from inter-school competition for the next activity he/she participates in for the first part of the activity (to be defined by the coach or director and shared with the principal)

2. In-season violation will be cause for the student to be removed from the extracurricular activity he/she is currently participating in and the student will not be allowed to perform or compete in that activity for the remainder of the identified season. The seasons within the fine arts activity is defined by the coach or director of each activity.
